Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article has not been previously published, nor has been submitted to another journal (or an explanation has been provided within the comments to the editor).
  • The file is sent in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF format.
  • The web addresses for references are included, where it has been possible.
  • The text is double-spaced; font size is 12 points; used italics rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are cited within the text in their respective place (and not at the end).
  • The text meets the requirements indicated in the Author Guidelines, which can be found in “About the Journal”.
  • It has to make sure that the instructions in Ensuring a blind revision have been followed.
  • A separate file is attached with the copyright transfer declaration to ISME as indicated in the Author Guidelines, as well as the rights for the use of tables, figures, and multimedia files included in the article.

Author Guidelines

Guidelines for Authors

  1. Format. All articles should be sent as an electronic document with the extension doc, odt or rtf; paper size A4. The font should be 12 points and double-spaced.
  2. Extension of the article. The complete manuscript, including abstract, keywords, illustrations, tables, and references should not exceed 6000 words, but, exceptionally, jobs exceeding this limit could be considered. The abstract should consist of 200 words approximately, and five to eight keywords.
  3. The cover page should include: title of the article; name of authors; institution; e-mail; postal address; telephone; fax. It should also include the following statement:
    Este artículo se remite para consideración de la Revista Internacional de Educación Musical exclusivamente. En caso de ser aceptado para su publicación, cedo todos los derechos de propiedad a la Sociedad Internacional para la Educación Musical (ISME). (This article is submitted to the Revista Internacional de Educación Musical exclusively. If it is accepted for publication, I transfer all rights to the International Society for Music Education (ISME).
    Please make sure that the cover page is in a different file from the article.
  4. Quotations. As indicated in the rules of the American Association of Psychology (APA), direct quotations larger than 40 words must be presented in a separate indented paragraph.
  5. Languages. In addition to submissions in Spanish, articles can be submitted in English, Portuguese, or French. In case of acceptance, the author must provide a translated version in Spanish.
  6. Different idiomatic versions of Spanish are accepted. In any case, the use of language must adjust to any of the Academias de la Lengua Española belonging to ASALE, as well as the Fundación del Español Urgente.
  7. Papers should be written with a proficient use of the language in order to allow a clear presentation of the ideas. Although this is a responsibility of the author, RIEM facilitates editorial support as far as possible.
  8. Tables. Text in all tables will be double-spaced; a title should be placed below the table. Tables must be numbered consecutively. Each table should be mentioned within the text.
  9. Illustrations. All images, including scores and diagrams will be labeled with the term "Figure" and be explicitly cited in the article. They must be consecutively numbered and have a size of at least 244 x 170 mm. The accepted formats are tiff, jpg, and png, with a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch, and with sufficient contrast.
  10. Multimedia. The work can include links to audio samples (mp3, qt, wma), short videoclips (mp4, avi, qt or flv), or other multimedia formats.
  11. Copyright. Tables, illustrations, and multimedia files included in the work must be accompanied with a statement in which the author declares he/she is allowed to reproduce them, either by transfer of rights or author’s ownership, covered by a "Creative Commons” license or that are public domain.
  12. References. All articles must follow the rules of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (3rd ed. in Spanish or the corresponding 6th edition in English, for both the citation within the text and the list of references.
  13. Final revision. After peer reviews, the authors receive the article for a final revision before its publication in the journal.
