Maestros de Música de Puerto Rico: Secuelas del Huracán María

En septiembre de 2017 llegaron a la isla Puerto Rico dos de los huracanes más fuertes de la historia moderna. El país se transformó y sufrió cambios, que después de dos años aún está sufriendo. Más de 3,000 personas fallecieron yalrededor de 160,000 personas desalojaron la isla (Center for Puerto Rican Studies, 2018). Las pérdidas fueron mayores en todos los sectores (Estudios Técnicos, 2017). El propósito de este artículo se mueve en dos direcciones: primero, desde una perspectiva humanista y empática, observar la situación socioemocional de los maestros de música en Puerto Rico luego del paso de los huracanes Irma y María en septiembre de 2017; y segundo, examinar las implicaciones laborales que estos fenómenos provocaron para el futuro de la enseñanza de la música de nivel primario y secundario y, de esta manera, considerar una agenda de gestiones y reflexiones prospectivas. Para el estudio se utilizó un cuestionario para identificar los daños sufridos a causa del huracán por los maestros de música de Puerto Rico. Este instrumento se diseñó tomando en cuenta artículos de la prensa del país, inquietudes de los investigadores y las ideas de cuestionarios para artistas sobrevivientes del huracán del RAND SURVEY RESEARCH GROUP (https://srg.rand.org/prartssurvey).
